GET INTO THE MOUNTAINS

Emerald Lake is a breathtaking lake in Yoho National Park that some people may argue is even nicer than Lake Louise! This guided hike begins along the Emerald Lakeshore Trail, a scenic trail that follows the shoreline. As you walk, you’ll be treated to brilliant views of Emerald Lake, whose colour changes with the light and seasons.

At the far end of the lake, the Emerald Basin Trail branches off and begins a steady climb through a lush subalpine forest. The ascent is moderate but rewarding, eventually revealing a vast, glacially-carved amphitheater surrounded by hidden waterfalls and rugged cliffs.

Once you reach the Emerald Basin, you’ll find yourself in a quiet, secluded valley where remnants of ancient glaciers still linger. This is the perfect spot to have a lunch break and reflect before heading back to complete the Emerald Lakeshore trail.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Beautiful Scenery: Emerald Lake is a destination in itself with its vibrant colours, but the basin adds that extra bit of seclusion and remoteness to disconnect and soak in the natural beauty that surrounds.

  • Wildlife Encounters: Keep your eyes peeled for marmots, pikas, or even the possibility for a bear or moose!

  • Expertly Guided: Your certified and trained guides will reveal the rich history, geology, and wildlife of the area for you.
